Crystal Bay Modern Remodel

Overview of Project- Crystal Bay Modern Remodel

Inspiration: Our client’s request was simple- “Step 1- we want as much glass as possible.  Step 2- please see step 1 above.”  We took this simple request and were able to revitalize the livable spaces by widening windows and glass doors were possible to gain the best views this home has to offer of Lake Tahoe.  The focal window of this home is directly in view as you enter. It is an European window that measures 13’ wide by 7’ tall and has a casement window adjoining it giving another 3’6” wide by 7’ tall, totaling over 16 feet of pure unobstructed views from the beautiful north shore of Lake Tahoe. The top floor bedroom also boasts a single framed window that is 8’ wide by 4’6”.

Interior Finishes: The kitchen is a modern take for us in the mountains, all cabinets being pure white with all the upper cabinets having glass panels inset into metal frames.  The double waterfall island stretches close to 11 feet in length with an overhang doubling as a breakfast sitting area.  Kitchen appliances are all from the Wolf-Subzero-Cove product lines, this client opting for the stainless steel of the appliances acting as the balance of color to this mostly all gloss white kitchen design. Custom colored white oak floors were used for the entire main level and basement level flooring material.  For our interior doors, we used concealed hinges and kerfed jambs for a trimless look, matching the color of our wood flooring to draw these two wood components together.  The front door is also European, fully equipped with switchable glass (goes opaque when turned off) to allow for added privacy as desired.  This project boasts a floating steel staircase for the main level going up towards the top level, with fabricated 5-sided limestone treads.  Our client wanted their very own spa-like refuge, this room being called “The Wet Room” featuring a steam shower, an onsite built infrared sauna, and a standalone XL cold plunge tub.  The custom lighting fixtures throughout really exude this client’s elegance and sophistication, including one fixture having 50 individual pendants tiered at different heights above the floating staircase as well as the Skydro ceiling fixture which resembles large metallic pebbles that reflect the rooms light.

About this client:

This client was amazing to work with as she was consistently confident when making choices or decisions throughout the project  She confidently picked out all cabinets, stone slabs, tile with our design team and she brought in color through the use of art, furniture, and accessories.  It seemed as if she was able to visualize what she wanted so well and able to see the end-product long before the finishes were in and assembled.
